📋 WordPress.com vs WordPress.org

WordPress.com (hosted): Requires Business plan ($25/mo) or higher to install plugins.
WordPress.org (self-hosted): Any hosting plan works. This is what most businesses use.

Step 1: Download the Plugin

Download our official WordPress plugin:

Step 2: Install the Plugin

1 Log in to your WordPress admin dashboard

Go to yoursite.com/wp-admin and log in with your administrator account.

2 Navigate to Plugins

In the left sidebar, click Plugins → Add New.

3 Upload the plugin

Click the Upload Plugin button at the top of the page.

Click Choose File, select the theskinnyai-widget.zip file you downloaded, then click Install Now.

4 Activate the plugin

After installation completes, click the Activate Plugin link.

Step 3: Configure Your Credentials

After activation, you need to enter your TheSkinnyAI credentials to connect the widget to your account.

1 Open plugin settings

Go to Settings → TheSkinnyAI in your WordPress admin.

2 Get your credentials from TheSkinnyAI

In a new browser tab:

Log in to your TheSkinnyAI Dashboard
Select your site from the list
Go to Site Settings → Widget Code
You'll see your Tenant ID, Site ID, and Anon Key

3 Enter your credentials

Back in WordPress, fill in the three required fields:

Tenant ID	Your unique tenant identifier
Site ID	Your site identifier
Anon Key	API authentication key (starts with `eyJ...`)
Widget Position	Where the chat bubble appears (default: Bottom Right)

4 Save and verify

Click Save Settings. You should see a green "✅ Widget Active!" message.

Visit your website's front end to confirm the chat widget appears in the corner.

Troubleshooting

Widget not appearing

Check credentials: Ensure all three fields (Tenant ID, Site ID, Anon Key) are filled in correctly.
Clear cache: If you use a caching plugin (WP Super Cache, W3 Total Cache, etc.), clear the cache.
Check browser console: Open Developer Tools (F12) and look for any JavaScript errors.
Disable conflicting plugins: Some security or optimization plugins may block external scripts.

404 error for chatbot-widget.js

This usually means an older version of the plugin. Re-download and reinstall the latest version (v1.1+).

"Widget Active" but nothing on frontend

Make sure you're viewing the site as a logged-out visitor (or in incognito mode).
Some themes load footer scripts differently. Try switching to a default theme (Twenty Twenty-Four) temporarily to test.

Does this work with page builders like Elementor or Divi?

Yes! The widget loads in the footer, so it works with all page builders and themes.

Will this slow down my site?

No. The widget script is small (~15 KB) and loads asynchronously, so it doesn't block page rendering.

Can I customize the widget appearance?

Yes. Appearance settings (colors, position, welcome message) are configured in your TheSkinnyAI Dashboard, not the WordPress plugin.

Does this work with WooCommerce?

Yes! The widget appears on all pages, including product and checkout pages.

How do I remove the widget from specific pages?

Currently, the widget appears on all pages. Page-specific control is on our roadmap. Contact us if you have specific requirements.
